Verde Creek rises two miles south of the Kerr county line in northeastern Bandera County (at 29°53' N, 99°12' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, the stream runs northeast for fourteen miles to its mouth on the Guadalupe River, two miles southeast of Center Point (at 29°56' N, 99°00' W). Verde Creek originates in a region characterized by flat terrain with localized dissection, and shallow stony soils that support live oak and Ashe juniper woodlands. Where the creek enters Kerr County the terrain becomes more generally rolling, the woods open up into clearings of varied grasses, persimmon, and prickly pear, and the soils become deeper and are composed of sand mixed with clay loams. The name Verde, Spanish for "green," was given to the creek by early explorers.
